The Default Setting:
Women, AI, and the Future of Work in UK Manufacturing
Commissioned by Beko UK & Ireland
Noetic AI researched and developed The Default Setting: Women, AI, and the Future of Work in UK Manufacturing, examining how AI-driven change could affect women’s career opportunities in UK manufacturing and how employers and policymakers can shape that transition.
The research combined International Labour Organization data on occupational exposure to generative AI with Office for National Statistics employment data, an original survey of 890 UK manufacturing professionals on AI use, AI bias and its perceived social and economic effects, and a review of international evidence.
The report translated these findings into practical recommendations for organisations and policymakers, covering AI governance, workforce training and role redesign, fair treatment and testing of AI systems, worker participation, and monitoring who benefits from AI adoption.
